The Role:

 

As the Building Surveyor – Fire, you will lead on the delivery of FRA remedial works, overseeing contractors, managing programmes and ensuring all works are completed in line with certification schemes such as FIRAS and Certifire. You will provide expert technical advice, undertake inspections, manage contracts under JCT frameworks and work collaboratively with internal teams, consultants and residents to ensure buildings remain safe, compliant and well‑maintained.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and interpret Fire Risk Assessments and identify required remedial actions.
  • Manage and deliver FRA remedial programmes across a large housing portfolio.
  • Ensure compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order, Building Safety Act and relevant British Standards.
  • Prepare specifications, schedules of work and tender documentation for fire safety remedial works.
  • Procure, appoint and manage contractors, ensuring quality, safety and contractual compliance.
  • Undertake site inspections and audits to monitor progress and standards of work.
  • Ensure fire risks are actively managed while works are undertaken on occupied buildings.
  • Liaise with fire safety officers, housing teams, residents, consultants and contractors.
  • Manage contract valuations, variations and final accounts under JCT contracts.
  • Monitor budgets, approve payments and provide accurate financial reporting.
  • Investigate building defects, undertake building pathology inspections and produce technical reports.
  • Use asset management and compliance systems to maintain accurate records and evidence.
  • Respond to customer queries and complaints professionally and within targets.

 

 

What We’re Looking For:

  • Significant experience delivering fire safety remedial works, ideally within social housing or a similar environment.
  • Strong understanding of fire risk assessments and their practical application.
  • Sound knowledge of fire safety legislation, building regulations, building pathology and compliance requirements.
  • Experience of contract management, procurement processes and JCT forms of contract.
  • Excellent planning, organisational and analytical skills with ability to manage multiple workstreams.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage residents, colleagues and contractors.
  • Confident decision‑maker with a proactive, solution‑focused approach.
  • Strong IT skills, including asset and compliance management systems and Microsoft applications.
  • Full UK driving licence and ability to travel between sites.

 

 

 Qualifications Required:

  • Degree in Building Surveying, Fire Safety or a related construction discipline.
  • Fire safety qualifications (e.g. Fire Risk Assessment Level 3, NEBOSH Fire Safety) desirable.
  • Membership of a professional body (RICS, CIOB, IFE or similar), or working towards.
