Shaping our future, whilst honouring our legacy

Tuntum Housing, a pioneering BME-founded housing association based in Nottingham, seeks an exceptional Chair to lead its Board at an exciting inflection point.

Established to promote the housing and employment needs of BME communities, this legacy continues to shape our purpose—grounded not only in our origins, but in an ongoing commitment to tackling racial inequality, valuing lived experience, and reflecting the voices of the diverse communities we serve today. As those communities have become increasingly multicultural and interconnected, so too has our role evolved. Having spent the last couple of years strengthening governance and building strong foundations, Tuntum is now preparing to develop its new Corporate Strategy, shaping its ambition for the future.

We are seeking a Board Chair who will provide strong, values-led leadership, bring a tenant and community focus, uphold regulatory excellence, and guide the organisation confidently into its next phase.

 Why This Role?

This is an exciting and pivotal leadership position at a community-based housing association with significant sector influence, managing over 1,600 homes  across the vibrant and multicultural community in Nottingham and surrounding areas.

You'll partner with the CEO and a passionate Board, driving strategic growth and navigating a new Corporate plan to be released in summer 2027.

The new Chair will need to represent Tuntum as an ambassador to their communities and wider stakeholders, alongside championing thought leadership on the importance of inclusive leadership within housing, anti-racist practice within the sector and promote the needs of BME communities and staff.

Your Impact

Driven by our mission and purpose and ensuring all voices are heard on the Board, you will:

  • Lead Board visioning, ensuring strategic focus, risk management, and high-performance culture amid board development needs.
  • Foster inclusive governance: balance financial awareness with social values, chair dynamic meetings, and build consensus across a 13-member Board.
  • Working alongside the CEO, maintain effective oversight and challenge whilst amplifying Tuntum's legacy as a beacon for multicultural thriving.

 Who We Seek

A proven leader with Board/Chair experience, strategic nous in regulated sectors, financial/property expertise, and proven EDI commitment. Embody humility, emotional intelligence, and an "enabler not dominator" style—reading the room, managing diverse perspectives, and partnering as a critical friend. Maintain the Boards focus on providing decent homes and services to our residents.  Comfortable within a transformational environment whilst aligning with Tuntum's values.

Diversity and Inclusion

Tuntum Housing is proud to be a BME-founded housing association that reflects the communities they serve, with 50% of the Board and staff team coming from a BME background; reflecting the lived experience of its customer base. They are committed to equality of opportunity and actively welcome applications from all backgrounds, particularly from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic candidates who are typically underrepresented in housing leadership roles.

Tuntum believe diverse perspectives strengthen governance and decision-making. As champions of inclusive leadership, we encourage candidates who share our values of openness, transparency, and social justice to apply—regardless of age, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or socio-economic background.

Tuntum is committed to making reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process. Please contact Greenacre Recruitment to discuss any requirements that would enable you to participate fully.
