Longevity : 3 months, with the potential to become permanent
We are seeking an experienced Interim Damp & Mould Surveyor to support a local authority’s social housing stock in Stevenage. The postholder will take a hands-on role in inspecting, diagnosing and resolving damp and mould issues, ensuring homes are safe, compliant and meet regulatory and resident expectations.
Key Responsibilities :
- Carry out detailed inspections of social housing properties to identify causes of damp, mould, condensation and related defects
- Diagnose defects and provide clear, evidence-based recommendations for remedial works
- Produce accurate survey reports, including photographic evidence and technical specifications
- Liaise with residents, housing officers, contractors and internal teams to explain findings and next steps in a clear, empathetic manner
- Support the authority’s compliance with Awaab’s Law, HHSRS and Housing Act requirements
- Review contractor proposals and workmanship to ensure quality and value for money
- Prioritise cases based on risk, vulnerability and safeguarding considerations
- Monitor progress of remedial works and carry out post‑inspection sign‑offs
- Provide technical advice to housing teams on prevention and best practice
- Maintain robust records in line with local authority systems and procedures
What we are looking for :
The successful candidate will be an experienced building or surveying professional with specific expertise in damp and mould within social housing. You will be confident working in occupied homes, managing sensitive resident interactions, and operating within a local authority framework. Strong report writing skills, sound technical knowledge, and an understanding of regulatory and compliance drivers are essential.
Qualifications / Experience :
- Proven experience as a Damp & Mould Surveyor or Building Surveyor in social housing
- Strong knowledge of damp, condensation and mould causation and remediation
- Experience working for or with a local authority or housing association
- Relevant qualification in building, surveying or property discipline (desirable)
- Full UK driving licence
