emh is looking for an exceptional Director of Communities to lead a significant change agenda across housing management, lettings, voids, community safety and place-based working. You will lead a directorate of around 60 colleagues, create a high-performing operating model and ensure that services feel joined-up, responsive and genuinely centred on residents.

 You will inherit a strong foundation: a stable organisation, committed colleagues, positive energy and a clear evidence base for change. Your immediate focus will be to turn the findings of a recent service review into a coherent delivery plan—improving processes, reducing unnecessary barriers and helping teams work better together.

 But this role is about more than operational improvement. With our Customers, you will also shape emh’s approach to community cohesion, ASB, local partnerships and socio-economic impact—building strong relationships with local authorities, Police, health partners and the voluntary sector to help create safe, thriving places.

 You will bring

• A strong track record of leading operational improvement in housing or a similarly complex, resident-facing environment.
• The ability to lead through others: developing people, delegating with confidence and creating accountability without micromanagement.
• Excellent communication skills and a visible, inclusive leadership style that keeps colleagues informed, listens well and brings people with you.
• The credibility and gravitas to influence senior stakeholders, work across organisational boundaries and report effectively to Boards and Committees.
• A practical understanding of housing operations, customer experience, community safety and the importance of regulatory assurance.
• Energy, optimism and the appetite to make things happen.
