Are you a senior housing professional who wants to make a genuine difference through safe, high-quality homes and strong, values-led leadership?
An established, purpose-driven supported housing organisation in Oxfordshire is seeking an experienced Director of Housing & Estates to join its Senior Leadership Team. This is a pivotal role, combining strategic influence with operational oversight, in an organisation supporting people with mental health needs.
The Opportunity
This is a high-impact leadership role with responsibility for the organisation’s housing management, estates, property, and health & safety functions, overseeing a diverse portfolio of around 500 supported housing units.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, you’ll provide expert leadership, shape strategy, and ensure homes are safe, compliant, well-maintained and truly fit for purpose. You’ll also play a key role in organisational decision-making, governance, risk management and partnership working.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver the organisation’s Housing, Estates and Health & Safety strategies
- Provide senior leadership to a multi-disciplinary department (c.36 staff)
- Oversee housing management functions including allocations, voids, tenancy sustainment and income
- Ensure compliance with Decent Homes Standards, health & safety legislation, and regulatory requirements
- Act as strategic lead for property investment, maintenance programmes and capital works
- Lead negotiations with commissioners and manage key housing contracts
- Champion a Psychologically Informed Environment (PIE) approach across housing and estates
- Build strong relationships with local authorities, regulators and external partners
- Manage budgets effectively, ensuring value for money and financial sustainability
About You
You’ll be a confident, credible senior leader with significant experience in supported housing, housing associations or a similar environment, and a strong grasp of property, estates and health & safety responsibilities.
You’re likely to bring:
- Leadership experience at a senior or director level within housing or supported housing
- Strong knowledge of housing management, property compliance and health & safety
- Experience working with vulnerable residents, including those with mental health needs
- A collaborative, values-driven leadership style
- The ability to influence at Board and executive level
- A proactive, improvement-focused mindset
A housing qualification (Level 4 or equivalent) is essential, with leadership or governance experience highly desirable.
