The Role

We are seeking an experienced Head of Building Safety & Compliance to provide strategic leadership across building safety, fire safety, statutory compliance and health & safety services within a residential property portfolio.

This senior leadership role is responsible for ensuring robust governance, regulatory compliance and operational assurance across all compliance disciplines. You will lead a specialist compliance and building safety team, oversee contractor performance, and provide expert advice to senior leaders on safety, risk and compliance matters.

You will play a key role in shaping organisational strategy, driving regulatory readiness, and ensuring residents remain safe through effective compliance management and building safety assurance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the Building Safety & Compliance function, ensuring all statutory compliance obligations are effectively managed and evidenced.
• Oversee compliance programmes including gas, electrical safety, fire safety, water hygiene, asbestos, lifts, CDM and related safety workstreams.
• Act as the organisation’s lead advisor on building safety, fire safety and regulatory compliance matters.
• Provide assurance reporting to senior leadership, committees and governance boards.
• Lead contractor and consultant performance management, ensuring services are delivered safely, efficiently and provide value for money.
• Maintain effective compliance systems, performance frameworks, risk registers and audit processes.
• Lead responses to audits, inspections, regulatory reviews and major incidents.
• Champion resident engagement, ensuring building safety information is clear, accessible and effectively communicated.

About You

You will bring significant experience leading compliance, fire safety, building safety or property safety functions within housing or another highly regulated environment.

You will have strong knowledge of the Building Safety Act, Fire Safety Act, landlord compliance requirements and wider health & safety legislation, alongside experience managing compliance programmes, governance frameworks, contractor performance and organisational risk.

You will be a confident leader with excellent communication skills, capable of influencing senior stakeholders and delivering a strong culture of accountability, assurance and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

• Degree level qualification or equivalent experience in Building Safety, Fire Safety, Construction, Asset Management, Housing or Property Services.
• NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
• Relevant building safety, fire safety or compliance qualifications.
• Professional membership with organisations such as IFE, IOSH, CIOB, CABE or RICS is desirable.
