Freebridge Community Housing are driven by a clear purpose and unwavering values, which includes providing more and better homes for communities across West Norfolk. Your development and regeneration expertise will help Freebridge shape and deliver a pragmatic, opportunity‑led development programme, working as part of the Development Committee which feeds directly into the wider Board.
Having recruited to the organisation at Executive, Board and Committee level, we can attest to their commitment to their purpose and believe these roles to be a genuine opportunity to impact on the region and the people within it. If this purpose drives you, we’d be very keen to have a conversation with you.
The role
We are looking for an independent member for the Development Committee, which is an integral part of our governance structure. We are specifically seeking an individual with housing development and/or regeneration experience to bring your expertise and insights to:
- Review and shape the Freebridge Development Strategy, ensuring decisions align with the wider Corporate, Asset Management and Net Zero Carbon strategies
- Support a development approach that is more opportunistic than volume‑driven – for example, portfolio acquisitions, partnership‑led schemes and selective new‑build opportunities
- Help the Committee balance investment in new homes with the need to maintain and improve existing stock, ensuring our homes meet and exceed the Decent Homes Standard.
This is not a “big builder” role; instead you will help Freebridge make well‑judged, commercially aware decisions about growth, working in partnership with other providers where that delivers best value and impact.
The organisation
Freebridge Community Housing is the largest provider of housing in West Norfolk, set up in 2006 to receive the transfer of homes from the Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk. They own and manage around 7,000 homes across West Norfolk, making a difference to thousands of customers within communities across an area of almost 550 square miles. They have an annual turnover of around £35m and employ well over 200 people. Over the last 17 years, there have been numerous achievements, not least delivering their tenants’ promises and bringing homes up to the Decent Homes Standard, affording their customers a much better quality of living.
Today, Freebridge is focused on a balanced approach to growth – investing in existing homes, making targeted use of government and lender funding, and pursuing selective acquisition and development opportunities that fit their scale, risk appetite and partnership model.
Who we are looking for
If you have an enquiring mind and are ready to challenge, question and support the organisation – sharing knowledge gained from senior‑level experience and offering a solutions‑focused approach – we’d love to hear from you. We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:
Experience of housing development, regeneration, asset growth or related investment decision‑making
An understanding of how to appraise and govern opportunistic acquisitions and partnership schemes, rather than purely pipeline‑led volume development
The ability to see the bigger picture, weighing growth ambitions against risk, capacity and long‑term asset quality.
Previous non‑executive experience is not essential but would be beneficial. Curiosity, good judgement and the ability to think and contribute at a strategic level are essential.
Diversity
Freebridge are committed to developing an organisational culture which values people from all sections of the community. This involves creating an inclusive environment that builds on everything that makes people unique and gives everyone a fair and equal chance to be successful. Freebridge encourages understanding and focus around diversity, encourages people to be themselves at work, and promotes an environment which feels more exciting, fair and inclusive. We encourage applications from everyone. If you require any support with the application process for these roles, please contact barry@greenacre-recruitment.com.
