Freebridge Community Housing – West Norfolk

Tenure: 3 years (with the option to extend to 6)

Remuneration: £5,585.15 annually (approx. 24 days per year)

Shape strategy, strengthen assurance, and build your NED profile in a values-led housing association

Freebridge Community Housing is looking to appoint a new Non-Executive Director with a finance background. This is a newly created role designed to bring added financial robustness to the Board and to play a key part on the Audit & Risk Committee.

What’s in it for you?

This role offers the chance to:

  • Use your financial expertise to influence strategy, risk and long-term investment in thousands of homes across West and North Norfolk.
  • Gain or deepen boardroom experience in a regulated, purpose-driven SME organisation..
  • Build your non-executive portfolio in a role that blends strategic challenge, supportive oversight and clear social impact.
  • Work with a committed Board and leadership team who value openness, collaboration and constructive challenge.
  • Develop your governance, risk and assurance skills within a well-established housing association.

Why Freebridge?

Freebridge Community Housing is the largest housing provider in West Norfolk, owning and managing around 7,700 homes across West and North Norfolk. Established in 2006, and now employing more than 200 colleagues with a turnover of £38m, we are proud to provide thousands of quality homes while keeping our focus on people, place and purpose.   Our work goes far beyond bricks and mortar. We’re building opportunity – investing in communities, supporting tenants to thrive, and leading the way on sustainability and regeneration across the region.

What you'll bring:

We are seeking a chartered accountant (or equivalent) with director-level finance experience, used to operating in an SME environment (housing or out of sector), and comfortable with complexity but close enough to the numbers to challenge detail. You should be confident to question, challenge and support in a constructive, collegiate way and be aligned with Freebridge's social purpose and values.  Ideally you're experienced in working with or on a Board – either as an executive contributor or through previous non-executive/committee roles.

If you enjoy shaping long-term strategy, ensuring accountability, and applying your knowledge to real-world impact, this would be an excellent opportunity.

Time commitment

Approximately 24 days per year (Around 7–10 trips to the head office in King’s Lynn, with additional preparation and virtual meetings).

Inclusion and belonging

Freebridge values the unique perspective every person brings. Their inclusive culture celebrates difference, encourages open conversation and ensures that everyone — from employees to board and committee members — can contribute and succeed.
