Steel – doing the right thing over the easy thing.

That value sits at the heart of being a Board member at Arches Housing. As custodians of our promise to provide safe and secure homes, Board members make the decisions that really matter – and stand by them. You’ll be collaborative, prepared to challenge, and always focused on customers and communities.

If that sounds like you, we’d genuinely like to hear from you.

About Arches

Arches Housing is a community-based housing association with just over 1,350 homes, serving vibrant and diverse communities across Sheffield, Rotherham and north Derbyshire. We are regulated by the Regulator of Social Housing and currently hold the highest G1/V1 governance and financial viability ratings. Our vision is simple and powerful: to contribute to the wellbeing of our tenants by providing safe, secure and warm homes that meet their needs.

We are proud of our roots, our 50‑year history and our people‑centred culture, recognised through Investors in People Gold and very positive staff feedback about Arches as a great place to work. As we look to the future, our ambitious growth and investment plans mean the role of our Board is more important than ever.

The opportunity

Due to planned Board refresh and succession, we are seeking up to three new Board members to join a cohesive, values‑driven Board that works closely with the Executive and residents to deliver positive outcomes for our communities.

As a Board member you will:

  • Set and oversee the long‑term strategic direction of Arches Housing, keeping us focused on our purpose, values and residents
  • Provide effective support, scrutiny and constructive challenge to the Executive, drawing on your expertise and judgement
  • Ensure we meet our legal and regulatory obligations and maintain strong financial and risk management, safeguarding our homes, people and reputation
  • Champion resident voice, equality, inclusion and diversity in Board discussions and decisions, so our choices work for the communities we serve

Who we are looking for

We are particularly interested in people who bring senior‑level expertise in at least one of the following areas, and ideally more:

  • Housing management – senior responsibility for housing operations, tenancy and estate management, customer services and service improvement in a regulated environment
  • Finance in a regulated environment – strong financial acumen, understanding of financial strategy, treasury, funding and risk, ideally with experience in housing, not‑for‑profit or another regulated sector
  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) – leading EDI strategy and practice, creating inclusive cultures, and using data and insight to improve outcomes for diverse communities

We welcome candidates from within and outside the social housing sector – fresh perspectives are important to us, and experience from other regulated or complex environments can be highly relevant.

Our commitment to diversity and inclusion

Arches Housing recognises and values the benefits that come from a Board with a rich mix of backgrounds, perspectives and life experiences. We are committed to being a fair and inclusive organisation for our customers, colleagues and Board members, and we want our Board to better reflect the communities we serve, around 55% of whom are from ethnic minority backgrounds.

How to apply

To express your interest, please send:

  • An up‑to‑date CV (ideally no more than three pages), and
  • A short supporting statement explaining why you are interested in joining the Arches Housing Board, and how your experience in housing management, finance and/or EDI will help us deliver for our residents and communities.

To request a Recruitment Pack, please contact Lizzie Grimwood on lizzie@greenacre-recruitment.com

Once we receive your application, you will be asked to complete a short, confidential EDI monitoring form, which helps us to understand how inclusive our recruitment processes are. All applicants must complete this form for their application to be considered.
