Freebridge Community Housing
West Norfolk
Bring your “lived experience” to the heart of Freebridge Community Housing’s decisions.
At Freebridge, the voices and experiences of the people connected to our homes, communities and services should shape the decisions we make.
We are seeking people with lived experience to join us in one of two important governance opportunities. Whether your experience is current or in the past, direct or through someone close to you, we want to hear from people who understand what it means to rely on housing, support or community services—and who want to use that insight to help make them better.
You might be a current or former social-housing tenant, shared owner or leaseholder. You may have supported a family member or friend who has used housing, homelessness, supported-living services. Or perhaps your volunteering, caring responsibilities or community involvement has given you a meaningful perspective on the issues that matter most to customers.
You do not need to have followed a traditional Board route. What matters most is your ability to listen, think independently, ask constructive questions and make sure that real customer experience is never lost in the detail.
There are 3 opportunities available:
Full Board member- You will help shape strategy and policy, scrutinise performance, challenge constructively, oversee risk and ensure the organisation is meeting its legal, regulatory and financial responsibilities. Previous Board experience or a sound understanding of governance and risk is required for this role.
Independent Committee Member (Operations Committee)- Help provide assurance that Freebridge is delivering safe, effective and customer-focused services. Bring lived-experience insight to scrutiny, challenge and improvement. You will bring relevant lived experience, sound judgement and the confidence to contribute in a governance setting. Previous Board or committee experience is welcome but not essential.
Trainee Board member- Learn how effective governance works while contributing your perspective to Board discussions. Follow a tailored development plan and build the knowledge and confidence to progress towards a future full Board role. No previous Board experience is required. This is an opportunity for someone with the right values, curiosity, commitment and potential.
We would be particularly pleased to hear from people who live in North Norfolk and can bring an understanding of the priorities, opportunities and challenges facing communities in the area. This is highly desirable, but not essential; we welcome applications from people across Norfolk, the region and beyond.
What you will bring…
- We are looking for people who share our commitment to good homes, strong communities and services that work for customers.
- Lived experience that gives you a meaningful understanding of housing, insecure housing, homelessness, supported housing, community services or the realities facing customers
- A commitment to ensuring people are treated fairly, listened to and respected
- Sound judgement and the confidence to offer an independent perspective
- Curiosity and a willingness to ask questions when something is unclear or does not feel right
- The ability to listen to different viewpoints and contribute constructively
Interested?
If you are unsure whether your experience is “relevant enough”, we would encourage you to get in touch. Lived experience is not a lesser form of expertise—it is an important perspective, and we want to make these opportunities accessible to people who may not previously have considered a governance role.
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and are committed to an inclusive process. Reasonable adjustments and support can be provided throughout the recruitment process.
