Adding resilience to the Board

How Greenacre have recruited numerous Committee, full Board and Chair roles to a rural Housing Association.

Freebridge Community Housing-The Challenge

Greenacre have developed a strong reputation with Freebridge Community Housing over last couple of years recruiting numerous Executive and Non-Executive roles across the organisation.

This has included 4 Committee roles (Assets & Development, Audit & Risk, People & Culture and Finance), 5 NED roles and their new Chair who started in September 2024.  Each remit was slightly different and involved a tailored approach however they were keen to develop the diversity of their Board in particular from an ethnicity perspective.  This was a tough task in light of the geography and access challenges in the region.

With each role we held an initial briefing meeting to understand the desired outcomes, preferred processes and level of stakeholder involvement.  We took this information and co-designed an appropriate campaign that would reach diverse audiences and removed any barriers to entry for these groups.

Freebridge Community Housing-Our Solution

Using our Ethic-All methodology we broke the recruitment campaign into its composite stages and assessed the optimum approach to reach the required audience.  Greenacre partnered with Dynamic Boards who focus on EDI principles in their advertising campaigns, as well as driving a pro-active targetted search and selection campaign to generate diverse shortlists on each occasion.  We maintained high levels of communication throughout the process and ensured that all applicants were furnished with all the information they needed, any additional requirements were catered for and support was on hand.

Freebridge Community Housing-The Outcomes

This comprehensive approach resulted in 3 of the 10 roles going to people from ethnic backgrounds and all candidates, successful or not, providing feedback that the process had been an open, fair and enjoyable experience.
